About Ciao Verbs
Ciao Verbs is an Italian verb conjugation app built by Zap Software, a small independent studio. It's the second app in a series. The first, Bonjour Verbs, does the same job for French.
Why conjugation, specifically
Because it's where people stall. General language apps cover conjugation in passing, between vocabulary and listening exercises, and learners hit a wall somewhere around the congiuntivo that no amount of extra vocabulary fixes. An app that only does conjugation can sequence it properly, drill it properly, and explain a wrong answer instead of just correcting it.
Where the data comes from
The verb database holds 2,000 Italian verbs and roughly 200,000 conjugated forms, built from open lexical sources and cross-checked against Wiktionary conjugation tables. Verbs are ranked by frequency in real Italian text, which is what decides the order you meet them in.
Everything published in the conjugation reference is generated from that same database at build time. Nothing on this site is typed by hand into a table, which is the only reliable way to keep a reference of this size correct.
What it costs
The website reference is free and always will be, with no account. The app will have a genuinely useful free tier and a paid tier for the full tense range and the smarter practice modes.
