Italian irregular verbs

  • 767 verbs in this group

Irregular verbs are a small minority of the language and an overwhelming majority of what you actually say. Every one of the ten most frequent Italian verbs is irregular.

That makes them worth attacking directly rather than waiting to meet them. Learning essere, avere, fare, andare, stare, dare, dire, potere, volere and dovere as complete paradigms covers a very large share of everyday speech.

This list is ordered by frequency, so the verbs at the top are the ones that repay memorisation first.

The 200 most common italian irregular verbs

Ordered by how often they appear in real Italian, so the ones worth learning first are at the top. Every entry links to its full conjugation in all 15 tenses.
